The Dialogue of Shiva & Shakti
Before there was a world, there was a conversation. She says “I” — and the whole universe eats, breathes and sleeps inside that word. He answers that the self has no verb; it simply is awareness. Then, night after night, the two lovers talk: of hunger and sleep, of error and modesty, of a lamp set apart in a quiet room, and of a table where the guest at last sits down as family. They speak from within the oldest songs of India — the Ṛgveda’s hymn of the Goddess, the Devī Māhātmya, the Śiva Sūtras — not as scholars quoting them, but as the ones those songs were sung about.
